Dr. Bowsher received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1977 from Indiana University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1981 and 1986, respectively. He worked in pharmaceutical industry in the area of bioanalytical methods development for 30 years and is an adjunct Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Indiana University School of Medicine. His primary research interest is the development and validation of ligand binding assays (immunoassays) for the bioanalysis of macromolecules, endogenous compounds and conventional xenobiotic drugs to support regulatory-compliant assessments of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and safety. Other research interests include the investigation of the disposition of therapeutic proteins, endocrinology and metabolism.

Dr. Bowsher is a member of various professional organizations including AAPS, ASPET, AACC, The Endocrine Society and AAAS. Since 1980, he has published more than 80 research papers and monographs, 90 abstracts and has two patents. In 2001, Dr. Bowsher founded and organized the Ligand Binding Assay Bioanalytical Focus Group within AAPS to create a forum to address issues, seek harmonization and promote education for the development, validation and application of analytical methods for the bioanalysis of small molecules, biotechnology products and biomarkers by ligand binding assay methodologies. Dr. Bowsher is the 2005 Chair of AAPS Biotechnology Section. In addition to his scientific career, Dr. Bowsher has been active in public education and served nearly 20 years on his local school board. During his tenure he held all the offices on the board and provided leadership for promoting the use of valid statistical methods for analyses of educational data and "data-driven" decision-making.
